3 / Should I get the bigger or smaller storage unit?

This is where your inventory list will be helpful as you may forget items which require more space. Also, think about your future needs. Most people find that their storage needs grow over time. Consider going a unit size up to be sure that your space will accommodate your items now and in the future.  You can also visit Afford2Stor and ask to see a unit that is the same size you are considering. We also have video of our 5x10 and 10x20 units available by clicking the video links above.

4 / What’s the best way to pack my items in the mini-storage space?

Once you’ve determined the right storage unit size, consider both the size and weight of the items you’re looking to store. You want to make the best use of the space that you have while allowing for easy access. Some items can stack on top of each other, while others may be too heavy or awkward in shape, requiring their own space. One way to help with choosing a storage unit size is by actually packing your belongings and stacking them together. Without damaging any items inside the boxes, use a tape measure to see how much space you need. Try using different containers or boxes to figure out the most efficient way to store everything. Depending on how long you plan to store items, it may be important to provide space for ventilation and access. When storing belongings for short periods of time, it is usually okay to pack them closer together. When storing belongings for longer periods of time, however, providing extra space not only for ventilation, but also for a walkway so you can get to your items is also vital. For belongings that you may need to access regularly, consider leaving enough space in your unit for an aisle. Then, be sure to arrange those belongings along the aisle for easy access.  Don’t forget to label your boxes and items so you can always find what you need and to keep an inventory list at home.

5 / I’m ready to rent.  Now what?

At the time of rental, you will be asked to bring a valid photo ID, current contact information and proof of insurance, and to fill out an application, so keep that in mind as you prepare for move-in.  If you need assistance with your items of special equipment such as a doily, please be sure to check with our manager at (541-858-5979) ahead of time so arrangements can be made for you.
